The LUCI Association

The International Network of “Cities of Light”

In December 2001, in Pécs and Budapest Hungary, Lyon was awarded the presidency of the International Urban Community Lighting Association (LUCI). The City of Lyon, internationally renowned for its lighting plan and traditional Festival of Lights, had initiated the creation of an international network of “cities of light”. At the time, a declaration of intent already united 15 cities in a collective project: to bring together city governments and professionals from all over the world in a forum to share information and experience in the field of lighting and promote city lighting as a major element of urban life, architecture and development. Today, some thirty cities around the globe have decided to join LUCI and participate in its projects. These cities include: Athens (Greece) - Beirut (Lebanon) - Birmingham (UK) - Bologna (Italy) - Bordeaux (France) - Bratislava (Slovakia) - Budapest (Hungary) - Canton (China) - Copenhagen (Denmark) – Geneva (Switzerland) – Glasgow (UK) – Helsinki (Finland) – Jericho (Palestine) – Liege (Belgium) – Lyon (France) – Milan (Italy) – Montreal (Canada) – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – Pécs (Hungary)- Porto Novo (Benin) – Putrajaya (Malaysia) – Quebec (Canada) – Rabat (Morocco) – Saint–Raphaël (France) – Shanghai (China) – Turin (Italy).

The LUCI Association is headquartered in Lyon and chaired by the City of Lyon. It is composed of four commissions:
